Located at an elevation of 4,268 m Milam Glacier Trek is among the best trek in the Kumaon Himalaya region. One of the moderate to challenging treks in the Kumaon Himalayan region that takes almost a fortnight to trek, it is in the list of every mountain lovers. Milam glacier is the largest glacier of Kumaon covering an area of 37sq. Kms. The Milam Glacier, situated on the south-facing slope of the Kumaon Himalayan range. It originates from the slopes of Kohli and Trishul peaks. It is the source of the Milam River and a tributary of the Pindar River. On the way of Milam Glacier trek, the route is also diverted for Nandadevi base Camp. Places on the way of this tour are Nanda Devi East Base, Gauri Ganga, Lilam, Railkot, Mapa, Martoli, Munsiyari. Milam Glacier Trek gives an opportunity to explore and experience the beauty of Kumaon Himalaya. The treks start from Munsiyari. The trek route usually opens in May and closes by mid-June at the arrival of the monsoons. The trek then reopens in mid-August. You get magnificent views of snow covered peaks on this trek.
The trek from Munsyari to Lilam is mostly downhill along the Gori Ganga river. Bogdyar to Rilkot is a dense forest trail, after which the trail opens into the Gori Ganga Valley. After crossing the Gori Ganga river one starts to get mesmerizing views of Nanda Devi and Hardeol peaks. The peaks continue to be visible right till Milam Glacier. Milam village is the last village in the trek which is at an elevation 3,450mts.
The trail passes through several solitary hamlets, lush green Valleys with wild flowering plants, Waterfalls and raging forest and varied landscape simply grab the imagination of every explorer.
