Overview
Devi Kund and Sundherdhunga are the most favorite trekking destinations for many trekkers.“Sunderdhunga” means the valley of beautiful stones. The valley is situated to the west of Pindari valley in Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand State. The Route to Sunderdhunga is the same up to Khati as for the trek to Pindari&Khafni. The trek to Sunderdhunga goes through Jaitoli village, DudhiaDhaung , and Kathalia. The area is covered with wildflowers, waterfalls and Beautiful Himalayan peaks. The tranquility of this place is incomparable and coherent when you further trek to this high altitude semicircle crystal clear Lake Devi Kund, which in English means “the abode of Devi”, lies at an altitude of 14,500 ft above the sea level. The spectacular view of the lake attracts trekkers all around the world, surrounded by sheer Mt. Panwalidwar, the imposing Maiktoli, Anamik, Bhanouti, Tharkhot, Durgakot, Simsagam, the massive Mrigthuni and Mt Nandakot. With great views from the campsite of Devikund, we put PanwaliDwar on our back and trek further up towards Nag Kund and then the Kanakata Pass. As the terrain slowly becomes difficult and extremely rocky, the desire to stand atop Kanakata Pass becomes stronger too. The snow-capped peaks distinctly visible during this trek are Mrigthuni (6,856mts), Maiktoli (6,803), Panwalidwar (6,663mts), Tharkot (6,100mts), Baljouri, Bhanoti. These mountains are seen so clearly from here that it looks like you can reach out and touch them as well.
